The deciding factor is your facility's hazardous-area classification, not the solvent alone. If the evaporator sits in a zone classified for flammable vapor atmospheres — common in ethanol extraction, pharmaceutical API recovery and fine-chemical pilot plants — codes such as ATEX in the EU or NEC Class I, Division 1/2 in the US typically require certified Ex-rated equipment. A ventilated, non-classified lab usually does not; check the rotary evaporator range if your space is unclassified.
